Zowe - Love the idea of a freedom market as opposed to towns controlling local farmers markets. fyi Can't watch the Freedom Market video thru the rokfin link from 2024 you provided here as it says the format is unsupported. So I'll search around to find more info. Sadly, don't like telegram so won't sign up there to access those links.
Found this just now. It's a brief 2-minute excerpt of the original 23-minute video you posted.
FLC [Freedom Lane County] Freedom Market Grand Opening Oregon 7/10/22 - [Eugene, OR ??]
Jun 7, 2024 - A diverse group of volunteers gathers with a shared passion for fresh, local produce to orchestrate a bustling farmers market. From setup to teardown, these individuals selflessly donate their time and skills to make the market a vibrant success. Each volunteer brings a unique contribution... Contact: info@freedommarketoregon.com
Can't seem to find updated info on this freedom market today, but turned up another market link (assuming it's a different area/local/town supervised farmers market since names are different?).
The Lane County Farmers Market is Eugene’s largest farmers market, providing locally grown foods from over 100 farmers and food artisans. The market is year-round, and all items are grown or produced in Oregon.Saturday Market: February and March (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.) April through December (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) Tuesday Market: May to October (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.) New in 2025, visit the Thursday Night Market on the third Thursday of every month from July to October (5 - 9 p.m.)
The info below is important info to know in comparison w/the freedom market (does it still exist?).
The Lane County Farmers Market states:
Our markets run 11 months of the year, and all items are grown or made in Oregon. New to market? Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Market Currencies: We accept cash, credit cards, LCFM market tokens, SNAP/EBT cards, WIC checks (not WIC cards), and Senior Farm Direct vouchers. We also offer two new food equity currencies at our Tuesday Markets and Saturday Markets during February and March only: Little Lettuce (a produce-only currency for children under 12) and Bucka Bucka Bucks (a lean protein subsidy for low-income households). Visit our Info Booth for questions about currencies, to process SNAP/EBT cards, and to buy LCFM tokens.
Anyway, appreciate your writing about this inspiring local market & its focus. Just posting the additional links for you & others to have available here w/your stack article - hope you don't mind.
The lane co one is not the same market, but the Eugene freedom market info is correct. Didn't know they had a website! You found it. Next market is Nov 9th. They hold them monthly at different locations
I’m in NY’s Hudson Valley so not near there at all. ;-) Was mostly sharing for others who live there in Oregon & might be interested in more contact info. Anyway, if you talk with that group you should ask if they are still going to post updated stories & videos & update their website?
Seems to me the long-established local farmers markets are prob siphoning off much of the market interest in buying & selling community goods just based on their longevity & marketing capabilities, unfortunately.
This is interesting: “Farmers markets are traditional marketplaces where local farmers sell their produce directly to consumers, often featuring a variety of goods from different vendors. Freedom farmers markets typically emphasize community empowerment and may focus on social justice, providing a platform for marginalized farmers and promoting sustainable practices.”
More websites turn up when searching “farmers markets vs freedom markets” (duckduckgo) Example below & in my comments.
Jul 12, 2025 - Shop at the FreedomFarmersMarket in Oakland to enjoy freshly harvested, non GMO, vegetables and fruit grown by African American and Under-represented farmers. FreedomFarmersMarket is open annually July - December in the Easy Bay.
The Freedom Farmers' Market serves as a gathering place that is creating harmony while offering a variety of produce, fruits, and healthy foods. People come to the Market not only to shop, but to socialize and to reconnect with a history that ties food to land, culture and community building.
on edit: Still trying to find one main website that might list all of the US “freedom markets” by state but guess that might go against the free-form nature - freedom - of the whole independent community-building idea? ;-)
NewYork is more than just skyscrapers and subway rides it's also home to an incredible variety of farmersmarkets scattered across its cities, suburbs, and rural communities. Whether you're looking for organic produce in the Hudson Valley, homemade baked goods in Western NewYork
NYers should be advised that you have to scroll down in the page & check out the regional listings by area/county. Again, just reg farmers markets listed.

Freedom Farms Farmers Market - Pennsylvania - Apr 22, 2025 - The market is well-known for its vivid assortment of fresh products, family-run appeal, and pleasant environment that attracts both residents and visitors throughout the open season.
Now if only we could FIND a Freedom Market. (many of us have been trying for the past four years - I've tried paying people in silver but they just don't get it)
I should say that I do spend a fortune having food shipped halfway across the country because it's one of the *few* farms I've found that I trust to produce healthy food.

Now if only we could FIND a Freedom Market. (many of us have been trying for the past four years - I've tried paying people in silver but they just don't get it)
That is the hard part I'm afraid. Emphasis on the part about it not being easy.
I should say that I do spend a fortune having food shipped halfway across the country because it's one of the *few* farms I've found that I trust to produce healthy food.
