In late November 2019, the hospital system I worked for began announcing a virus outbreak in China. The hospital’s internal “intranet” was the digital water cooler for all employees. Leadership would place hospital network news and updates there. The unspoken culture was that all employees were expected to check the intranet daily for these updates. It was the best way for remote staff to stay up to date on hospital news. The Leadership placed a banner that warned of an impending Wuhan Virus outbreak and low stock of personal protective equipment or PPE. The banner moved across the top of the home screen, similar to how the evening news uses them for breaking stories. This was ahead of the media reporting it to the public.
